About
About our care information
What this is
Leafy offers care information, not medical or veterinary advice. Plant care involves real judgment calls β our schedules and suggestions are starting points, not prescriptions.
Toxicity information covers pet safety only (dogs and cats). We don't assess human safety. For any human ingestion, contact poison control immediately.
Where the data comes from
Taxonomy follows Kew POWO. Care profiles are Leafy editorial β curated from horticultural literature and marked with their source. Toxicity claims cite ASPCA as source authority.
Every claim in the catalog carries a source_authority and source_date so you can verify it directly.
Catalog
Version 1 Β· 20 species
What's in v1
- 20 common houseplants, taxonomy from POWO
- Care profiles: watering rhythm, light, humidity, temperature, challenge dimensions
- Toxicity claims for cats and dogs (17 of 20 species)
- Synonym resolution β historical names like "Sansevieria" find current species
Found an error?
If something looks wrong β a care tip, a toxicity claim, a name β please tell us. Accuracy matters, especially for pet safety.

Your plant data
Leafy runs entirely in your browser. Your plant names, care events, and notes are stored in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) β nothing is sent to any server. We don't have access to it. Nobody does but you.
What our hosting provider sees
When you load the app, your device connects to our hosting provider to download the app files and the plant catalog. Our hosting provider may log standard web-server fields β including your IP address β as part of normal infrastructure operation.
We don't set cookies. We don't use third-party analytics. We don't track you across sessions or devices.
Catalog downloads
The plant catalog (catalog.json) is downloaded once and cached by the service worker. Each catalog version is signed with a cryptographic key β the app verifies the signature before using the data.
Keeping your data safe
Use the Export data feature in Settings regularly. Your browser can clear local storage β exporting is how you keep a personal backup.
If you clear your browser data, your plant history will be gone. No server copy exists to restore from.
